Anyone have an opinion about the Stampin Up catalog?
I looked at the new catalog yesterday, I like the new colors, it seems like they jacked up the prices on some stamp sets and the punches. They have very good quality products and I have been using them for awhile now. Lots of people that I know think they are very pricey compared to all the stuff you can get online these days. What are your thoughts?
No idea. Us little people don't have access yet. This is probably one of the reasons my stamping budget is already spent by the time I can see the catalog. Knowing that it's coming makes me want to shop. Knowing that folks are browsing it makes me want to buy. But - can't buy what I can't see - not available yet .. so my monies go elsewhere.
i think for stamps, SU is very close in price (or waaay cheaper) than Michaels or ACMoore (havent been to JoAnns or Hobby Lobby though)
and the SU detailed embossing powder is the best I've tried so far.
i buy SU secondhand on eBay a lot because I like their stamps, but usually can't afford them new.

I was just on vacation and stopped in two stamp stores. Each stamp was $5.00 to $9.50 each (wood mount, of course), and I kept thinking how reasonable SU is. I did buy about 6 wood mounted stamps. One of the stores is a store advertised here on SCS. I've been wanting some of their sentiments for ever!! I think SU is a good value.

I think most of the punches are the same price they were in last catalog. Quite a few though are extra-large, and they are $16.95 - $1.00 more. A couple are $17.95.
I'm in love with the new catty. It has so many great new goodies. If I wasn't a demo already I would definitely be looking into the mini kit just so I could get a discount on all the stuff I want
Actually, as far as prices go for the Canadian catty, everything went down except for cardstock. I was really happy with that. There are some new stamp sets I want, I love the new colors, the new in colors are kind of similar to stuff we already have so not sure I'll get those. There are some great new background stamps and embossing folders that I want too!
I think that SU! does have expensive paper, but I'm happy to pay it because it's quality. The stamps sets are great value compared to Micheal's. At least in Canada anyways.
I liked it. I like the vintage stuff, as that's a huge trend right now and I'm enjoying playing with vintage things. However, I already have many of the vintage accessories, and have for years, so I don't have a need to buy them from SU. It was nice to see some things that actually felt "new" rather than just an old design put in a new package. The new colors are nice too, but I've moved on to other companies for colors. I like that there are more "clear mount" stamps, as I'm so over storing wood mounted. There's nothing I'm dying to have, but there are plenty of things I'd be happy to enjoy using (and hoarding) in my stamp room!
Oh, and I forgot to add - I liked the layout. Putting most of the samples on the top of the page cleans up the look a bit.

I'm just a little person (hobby demo) who happened to get their catalog a week ago.
What I love about the catalog is the amount of information that is provided. The layout is great when it comes to paper, inks, ribbon and what matches what.
As for the stamps, well I'm kind of picky and so there are only about 15 sets I really like of the new stamps. But there is a nice selection that should hit on just about any stamping style.
I need to see the DSP samples before I can say if like/don't like. For some reason I have to see it as the pictures never really do the DSP justice.
Less ribbon - kind of a bummer but I'm hoping the mini's will fill the gap.
Bigger/darker print - Yea!
Overall I think SU did a wonderful job with all the changes they've had to make.
I think the stamps and punches have stayed pretty close to what they were. The paper has taken a jump, unfortunately. There were some things I was really hoping to see that made it and some that didn't. But all in all, I really like the new catalog and am looking forward to July. There are alot of goodies that I can't wait to play with and I love the new in colors as well as the new core colors. Some great combos from them!

Pawz94, no they didn't, they saved the room for more goodies for us to buy. However, after July 1st, your demo will have access to the supplies list, so, please reach out to him/her.
Some of the sample projects they have given us in this catalog are fabulous :-)

I really like it! Wasn't thrilled with the cover...the colors used just aren't me but I love all the stuff in between:-) I was never very into the vintage thing but now can't get enough! I like a lot of the new stuff too! I really think a lot of the samples are super this year, I love all the ideas!!!! It's already dog eared:-)
I was really pleased with the catalog. SU does an awesome job on their presentation - it is beautifully done..... I am pleased with what they put in it and can't wait to order. Yes, the paper did go up in price but I figure this offsets the other stuff that barely went up at all so it's all good. Of course the cost of labour etc goes up everywhere so even though we all want cheaper prices I justify spending my money on SU for getting such awesome quality in their product. Gosh listen to me - I should work for SU!! Oh right - I already do! I'm a demo!! LOL!!!!!
Fun catalog, fresh look, great layout. I am tired of samples, beautiful as they are, where someone spent hours cutting out the stamped image. Do real stampers do this??
But it is an awesome catty. Lots to dream about.

I agree there is a lot of cutting out! Sometimes I get on a kick and do a lot of cutting....other times not so much! Doesn't bother me too much because I can usually case the card without the cutting if I want. I just change it a bit or use a punch or something....how fun would your job be if that's what you did though....I mean make the samples for the catty:-)
And hours, no....not usually. Sometimes like if I'm going somewhere in the car or know I'll have some down time at work I might stamp stuff and cut during those times. I'm so over the cutting the top note to layer it! I REFUSE to do it...it annoys me...make a smaller one so we don't have to SU!:p
I got to page through the catty the other day and I loved it. I can't wait to get my own copy...hopefully soon!
Yeah, me too!
Taking a quick page-through with the catty was all I could do the other night. But my overall impression was that it was a very appealing catalog visually.
I couldn't spend the time poring over every set, but it appears that older sets are still wood only, new ones are either wood mount or clear mount. I saw many very appealing new sets!
It was pointed out to me that the ribbons have less variety...each type comes in the same collection of colors.
I'm REALLY looking forward to getting the new colors! They're LUSCIOUS!
LOVE IT!!!! Love it, love it, love it!!!! Best catty in YEARS. Mine has been marked up, tagged for my must-have items, drooled on, and carried with me everywhere for weeks now.

Ah, fussy cutting. I'm not a fussy cutter either. I'll cut on occasion, but give me a die cut and I'm cut it regularly! Speaking of that, SU needs to get on the die cut matching your exclusive stamps train. Now that would rock!
I do really like how the put the outline (I think it's pink) around the stamps that have punches that match. I had to ask a demo to find out what that was, but it's mighty convenient. I think there's also a new kraft ink aka crumb cake, which is cool. I don't remember if it's pigment or not as I only got to borrow a catty for a quick looksie (which I was thrilled to have)!

The only actual craft pads are whisper white, basic black, and vanilla. You can buy a crumb cake craft ink refill to make your pad.
On ocassion I like to do "fussy cutting". I used to hate it but I made myself practice. I just sit and watch/listen to TV and cut away. The only problem is the clean-up - you can find a trail of little pieces of paper from the couch to the fridge!
I'm thinking that one of the desingers is a cut fanatic so that is why we see so many cut-outs in the catty. Another designer must be a button freak as there are a boat load of cute ways to use buttons.
I am one of those "fussy cutting freaks"! LOL Its so calming and I love my stuff cut out. Sick, I know! SOOO...I adored the samples this time because there were quite a bit of fussy cutting.
I think there is a bit of "something for everyone (or should I say most people)" in this catalog. I am glad to hear that customers who have seen it from their demos are overall happy with it too. Thats what its all about!!

sorry. /rant off

Good advice but I don't see that happening because I just don't buy enough in $$ from them in a year. I can't give up buying KSS, CTMH, PTI and all the other brands I love as well.

Just FYI, it's only $260 per quarter (so split over three months) after your discount IF you only buy for yourself...which is pretty much what I do:-) And I well exceed that, haha. Anyway just wanted to put that out there for anyone who didn't know. I didn't know it before I signed up or would have done it earlier!
Getting the catty early is a nice perk of being a demo...especially for someone like me who doesn't really make any money:-) It's not like SU is trying to hold it away from you....the release date is July 1, just kinda the way it is. If you have a demo you should call her as she CAN show you her copy (if she placed an order to get it) in person NOW! And if you are a hobby demo you can still use all the companies you like, you just can't demo them or promote them which isn't an issue especially if you are your only customer:-) Anyway, it just made sense for me as I was spending the "minimums" each quarter as my stamping budget, KWIM. So it's worth looking into for anyone who spends that much in a regular basis! Now go call your demo and set up a time to see the catalog!!!!!
I have quite a long list...my list has to be near $1000..all the new DSP and plenty of paper and stamps, and inks and reinkers really bumped up my list...I am glad we have a whole year.
blessings.

I loved the look of the catalog. It's visually appealing and beautiful.
Love the new features (punch outlines, tables, etc) of the catalog.
The big disappointments to me were the new stamps. They got rid of 100 (I think) but only added mid-50 new sets. (I'm not counting wheels). There wasn't much I was interested in the new sets, (only have about 5 on my wish list) but I'm sure after seeing samples I will change my mind.
I like the new backgrounds, and was quite disappointed in the Big Shot offers. Hoping the mini catalog will have a ton of BS stuff in them.
Oh yeah...and the ribbon. BIG disappointment there. I'm a ribbon hoarder, so the more ribbon the better!

I wish you weren't so helpful Minders! I've been thinking about this because I buy so much throughout the year. It might actually SAVE me some money!
