Default Any tips on lining up eyelets?

I was working on a design last night and wanted 3 eyelets in line but had a hard time getting them straight. Does anybody have any tips on how to get them in a straight line? I have never been able to write straight or cut straight either

TIA
Dana

I used to use a ruler and pencil to mark where I wanted the holes. But then I read a great tip in one of the threads on this site: Use the "tear-off" edge from an SU! order form (with the holes punched in it) as a guide. I tried this last night and it worked great! (Sorry I can't remember who mentioned this tip, but a big THANKS!)

Mine are never exactly perfect, I just "eye it up." I'll have to try that tear-off strip method though - sounds like a winner!

The Crafter's tool kit also has a guide for lining up eyelets. It's also a paper piercing guide.

I imagine you could create one yourself with your printer and a transparency paper. You'd just type out "O"s with the spacing you want. Then just print it out, and use your hole punch to punch out the "O"s. Then lay it on your project where you want it, and maybe put some temporary mono to help it stay in place while you punch your holes through the guide.

Hope this helps!

I purchased an "embellishment ruler" from my local LSS. I think I paid $4 or $5 for it. Well worth it. It has guides with little holes lined up for horizontal or vertical as well as diagonal and in corners. I'm not sure who made it and I haven't seen anymore ever since they sold out, but I'm glad I got one! Before that I was using a quilting ruler.

I have tried to tear off strip from the order form and it did not work for me (got the eyelets to line up but they were not straight). I now use the clear guide thing in the Crafters Tool Kit and the eyelets come out perfectly straight because you can see through the guide.

okay this may sound silly but I use my two hole punch (piggy nose) and punch two holes. Then I line up one of the holes that I've already punch and punch the third hole (and the one that I lined up is already punched out of course). I've only done this with three holes. I haven't tried it with more than three holes. Before I got my piggy nose punch, I would take my piercing toll and poke holes where I wanted my eyelets to be. Then I would use my single hole punch and put the pierced hole right in the center of the hole punch. Lined up every time. (I have a long reach single punch).

I don't have the web address anymore but there is a site that sells mostly scrap accessories and they have a thing called eyelet friend. I saw a post on here about it. The place I bought from has free shipping on all orders. I think the eyelet friend was about 5.99. It's pretty cool. You can make a Christmas tree and they have corners markings. It comes in two sizes. Try a search I know there was another site posted and at one point, I posted the name of the site I used.

the site with free shipping is www.thescrapbookstore.net

castampin.com, which also has a retail store in Pleasanton, CA, carries the Eyelet Friends. They have several kinds, but my favorite is the two piece oval or rectangular one. Sell for about $5-6. They have two pieces, an open rectangle (or oval) like a picture frame, which has holes evenly spaced, and an inside piece that is that shape only has holes evenly spaced around the outside. Both are clear plastic so you can line up where you want the eyelets. I love mine!!

Someone wonderful here (whom I hold in the highest esteem!) shared this great tip with me:

The "holes" for paper on a dot matrix printer (or rip off the top of an order form) work great!

Can't get much cheaper than that! LOL!!

My biggest tip is punch ALL your holes first, then put in the eyelets. I know that seems obvious, but for me it wasn't.

I also love my eyelet friend! http://www.timelesstouches.net/

I just wanted to add that the lady at thescrapbookstore.net is just great. I've ordered twice and she sends a nice message and ships very quickly. And, she takes Pay Pal, if that interests you. Enjoy the rest of the day!!!
