cover it with paper? i'd think you'd have to take off the plastic first, and just leave the chipboard.
i know there was one in the gallery.. let me search for it.

you could always pm the person who made it and ask.
Thanks Ashley! That is really pretty, I wish it had more instruction. I bought a black 3-ring binder today and it never occurred to me that I would have to remove the black plastic. Hmmm, I wonder if anyone else will reply and help me out here.
I covered some of the smaller ones (not for 8.5x11) and didn't take the cover off - I just used really sticky tape all over the plastic and then stuck my paper down. I covered the front, and overlapped the top, bottom and sides. Then, I cut a piece for inside the cover. The only tricky part is getting the paper under the ring - I only put about an inch at the top and bottom under it. I am sorry that I don't have a photo for you, but please PM me and I can try to give you more specific instructions. It really wasn't as intimidating as I thought!
i think you could probably cover it without removing the plastic. i'd maybe try a zyron to get it really sticky or red tacky tape. or you could decorate just a page and slip it into the kind of binder that has the clear pocket that way your design would be nice and safe under plastic. good luck! post your creation when you figure it all out
When I cover 3ring binders, I just make an insert (kinda like a scrapbook layout) and slip it into the clear cover, that way whatever I made is protected and it's not easily torn when throwing it around I tried to take plastic off and do it that way and lets just say it didn't last long, lol!
I used to cover notebooks with felt. I would glue down a large piece of felt to cover the whole front cover and then cut out other felt shapes and designs to glue on top of that. They were really cute and could probably work for a 3 ring binder. You would just need to get some kind of glue that would stick the felt to the plastic...
