... to become a demo for a company like SU or CTMH? I'm 48 and for some reason my age seems to be a psychological obstacle for me to overcome. Are there successful and happy demos out there age 48 and older? Let me know!
Both of my demos are over 50 and have great workshops. Most of their customers are probably over 30 but a lot of us are the ones who have the money! Personally I'm 48 - my kids are both gone and now I've got income to use on me so don't let age be a barrier. It could be a great big positive!! Go for it!!!
My demo is over 50 and is doing just great. She has customers of all ages and we all love her. I think it's all about how you "run" your business and whether or not you enjoy it, not your age! Go for it and have fun!
I don't think you're too old at ALL! In fact, some of my favorite fellow demos and customers are over 40 and into their 50s! One of my best customers and a good friend is in her mid-70s!
I think you are only as old as you feel. If you feel young enough to be a demonstrator, go for it! It's one of the best jobs I've ever had! I'm 34 and have been a demo 10 years now but I've met demos from all walks of life. I envy some of the older (not old!) ladies that don't have a million kid obligations and just spend their time making stuff.

I don't think that age is too old. The lady I buy from, I have no idea of her age, but I know her daugther is in her mid-30s, so I would guess she's got to be at least in her mid 40s if she was a teenage mom (which I would guess she was not, but just saying.....)
Lots of ladies of all ages love stamping so I don't think your age would be an issue. Too young would probably make it harder as many of the younger ladies I know don't have the time or the $$ to spend stamping.
I turn 48 in 22 days. I don't consider myself old at all. I have been toying with the idea of becomeing a demo for the past 3 year, but because were I was living-in Hawaii, the shipping cost for a demo pack was unreal. Was not willing to spend that high of a shipping cost just to get the demo package-from any company. Now that I am in a decent area for shopping, I am having too much fun with all the new product available to me. So the demo thing is on hold.
Just want to let you know there are demo's out ther(that I have had) in all areas, pampered chef, avon, the angle company, close to my heart, mary kaye and ect....
that are 48 and above.
Please don't start thinking of yourself as old, because then your quality of life will not be FUN!
The reason I am feeling off my game today is because of a migraine, but I will be fine tomarrow!
I say go for it and have FUN!!!!! You are not old till you act old!!!

There are many over 50 demos, some with a strong business, some in it as a hobby/retirement project. I'm 52 and I plan to be a demo until death parts us.

I just finished my demonstratorship last year after a six year run because I was ready to do something new. I think the forties are great for that! So if being a demo is new for you, and you'd like to give it a whirl, I say go for it!
Hopefully, one day we can all be old enough where people will just call us "eccentric". ;)
Ask yourself the question that Ann Landers tells people when they want to go to school to be a Dr or whatever when they say "I am 50 now and will be 58 when I complete my degree"...
"Well, how old are you going to be in 8 years if you dont go to school?"
The answer is: STILL 58, right? Except you will be 58 and be a DOCTOR!!
Age is just a # and I think many people get the chance to do something they REALLY WANT TO DO when they get out of their 20s and 30s. That time seems to be all about raising a family and doing what others need and want us to do. I know I am 38 and when my son graduates from high school (in 5 years) I plan on becoming a psychologist like I always wanted to. I may be "old" (NOT!) when it happens but who cares? I will enjoy it even more!
No you are NOT to old.
I know a gal that went back to school here at age 61 to get her nursing degree. She did it and has been a nurse now for a few years.

I'm 52. That never occured to me with a demo, but it has occured to me in other areas of my life, so I sort of know where you are coming from. I wouldn't hesitate for a moment in becoming a demo. My demo is 40. Almost everyone who comes to our monthly workshop is over 40. I go to another workshop and those two demos are in their 50's.

I think the only thing it to remain fresh in your samples and projects. That's not at all an age thing. There are ladies here that have a few decades on me that knock my socks off and make me feel like my style is "old".
If you love stamping and want to share it with your friends through parties you should be a demo.
And 48 is NOT old. When you are 84 we can talk, but I'm probably still gonna say it's not too old! haha.

Only if you think you are. I know old people who are in their 30s and young ones in their 70s.
I sell Pampered Chef, and one of our reps is in her 60s & she loves it. My former director (I've been in & out a couple of times) is hugely successful and is in her late 60s. She was in her 50s when she started, and went on to become one of the top sales people in the company.

Absolutely not!! There are plenty of us your age and older! And we might WISH we were your age! I, too, wondered when I started 7 years ago if it was all a bunch of young girls, but it is all ages and you will not feel out of place in any way! Go for it, I'm positive you won't regret it.....and you're still young at 48! Enjoy it!
OMG....NO..I am 57....and LOVE being a demo....I have customer from 20 on up...in fact, a couple of my best friends are in their 30's & 40's
I would hate to think I'm too old to *have fun* doing what I love...kwim....
my situation is DIFFERENT..in that I'M OLD but I still have kids at home...I have custody of a 10 & 15 yr old...and have had them for 3 years and will probably have them all their lives now...
If you are interested in talking more about being a demo at an *older* (lol) age, pm me...
Hush that talk!!! No way is 48 old. For whatever reason this is bothering you I think you are coming into some of the best times of your life. If you are like a lot of us your children are grown and you may be a grandma. To me being a grandma is the most awesome part of my life. I have money to spend and boy oh boy do I! I love stamping and my demo is in her 50's. She does a great job. You will too.
Since I turn 49 in August no one better tell me I'm too old for anything! I started a ministry with my husband at 47 and I sure didn't feel like that was inappropriate! I love my age, my kids grown and a life that affords us some flexibility in enjoying what ever we want to take on. Considering that same year we also started our web and print design business.......uh, yeah, you're not too old for anything! We can be just as up to date on trends and colors and art as anyone!

ROFLMAO!!! I just about lost it when I read your comment, too funny.
But like many other comments here I too am in my 40's and love to stamp/scrapbook. I use to be a consultant for a company and would still be one if I didn't get burned out. It just became too much to meet the minimums. But if yo love it go for it.
I think that's the nice thing about direct sales...no one can discriminate and not hire you because of your age. Although, this 46 year old thinks you're not even halfway through life yet, so you are definitely not old!

I just spit coffee on my 'puter!!! Too flippin funny!! The sad part is I've seen things like that! You have to ask yourself if these people own a mirror!! Back to the question at hand.............I became a Demo when I was 48. I'm 54 now and still going strong!! Go for it!!

I have been a demo for nine years...ten years next April. My age....62! Am I still going for it...YOU BET! I started my SU business before I retired from the Post Office and now it is my HAPPY retirement business! I Love it and am having more fun than ever. GO FOR IT!!!!!
Glad I could inject some humor... But seriously: I'm 54 (well, in July I will be, so close enough...) and the only reason I'm not a demo is because I have a seriously short attention span and move from company to company and idea to idea and I just love all of it from everywhere and can't commit to ONE!
The main thing to keep in mind is ENTHUSIASM! You can sell anything if you market properly, and enthusiasm for what you're selling is the key. You don't have to "sell", you just have to gush over how much you like it, how much you use it, what fun you're having, etc., and since it's all true it can't help but come across as sincere, and there you go - done deal!
Almost 58 here and have been a SU Demo for two years this August! If you have a "passion" for it, that passion will shine through and people don't care how old you are! Please don't let age hinder you in what you want to do. I think it's the perfect time to be a consultant....no small children at home, so I have time to plan without so many interruptions and I don't have to get a babysitter to go do a workshop or get to plan my workshops around sports, etc. Now, I do have grandchildren, so I do have to leave some nights open for their events. One of my grandchildren is 11 and she loves to help me with my business. I'm recruiting her when she turns 18....just training her now...LOL!
I say GO FOR IT if it's something you'd love to do!!!! :=)
