Hi! I'm new to SCS and fairly new to scrapbooking. My friend is a demo for SU and going to have a party for her next weekend. She dropped off the catalog for me today and I've been having a great time browsing! I really want to get some Alphabet stamps for my scrapbooking but I'm having a hard time deciding between all the choices.
#1 - Pure and Simple
#2- Classic Double Alphabet
#3 - Crazy
and I just got Collage alphabet and I sure this will be between #1 and #2....This one is not in the big catalog, but in the mini catalog.
Crazy Alphabet was my first, but I find I don't use it often because it's "too" crazy... know what I mean? sometimes I just want a "simple type" alphabet for my pages because I prefer clean lines and non-cluttered pages, therefore I now use Pure & Simple Upper Case and Simple Type double alphabet. But, those are my preferences.
Note: if you get Alphadots, you must get the 1/2" circle punch on pg 222 (a7) as it's perfect for punching out these letters to layer them
That is the direct link to the Collage Alphabet Gallery here on SCS, you can atelast get a feel for it but yes ask your friend for a Winter Mini and it is pictured in there along with the Collage Numbers!
Can I ask my demo/friend for a mini catalog to see the Collage alphabet or is that only available at certain times of the year?
Thanks for your help!
Yes - the Winter mini is where the Collage alpha debuted (sp?) - Winter mini goes through Feb - but SU! announced that, along with the Canvas BG stamp will be available through June!
I have:
All Around
Simple Type
Collage
Alphadots
love them all for the different styles they go with. So, think about what you'll be making with your alpha & what will be more versatile
Most of my Alphabets are retired. I have the "crazy alphabet" and the new "collage alphabet" which I love. My favorite was the Alpha Builders that you could use and make many different alphabets from it.

I think there are a couple of things to consider. First, size. I like the double alphabets more for a couple of reasons.
First, they are a nice medium size. This is more versitile for different types of scrapping tasks. They work best in 6x6, but have tons of uses in larger albums as well. They are also the most cost effective option.
Next, style. Take some time to look through scrapbook section on this web site. Skip over to scrapjazz.com for a bit. Do you like the shabby chic/ altered book look? Then you would want something like collage alphabet or the newsprint alphabet.
If you like something simple and classic, try classic alphabet or Simple Type. Bold Alphabet is a really good size and weight of letter. It is easy to stamp for this reason (I find that it is easy to rock the smaller letters in Classic Alphabet).
In the beginning you are going to want to CASE things that you love, at least elements of it. Your style will emerge. I have many alphabets, but the simple classic ones are often picked up. Crazy alphabet, as much as I love it, gets used less...
I have one double (Bold Alphabet) and one regular one (Alphabet fun) I use them both a lot... Actually got the double one off that dreaded ebay last year before I thought about becoming a demo and because some idiot put it on buy it now for $20, new and um... couldn't let anyone else pick up that steal!! ;) and the Alphabet Fun set I got because it is a crooked set so it can go on uneven and look great
I want the collage alphabet set but not sure if I will have the money for it.... actually we do have another quarter to get the Collage Alphabet and the Canvas background stamp (got that though) so maybe I can still get it soon.
My favorite alpha? Whichever one I happen to be working with at the time! I don't have Animal Alphabet, Alpha Hearts, Brushstroke, Contemporary, or Crazy. The rest I have, including a few that are retired and that I just *refuse* to part with...Yeah, it has taken a while to acquire them, but they're still *much* cheaper than if I had purchased stickers to do all of the lettering that I've used my stamps for in my scrapbooks. Oh, and that doesn't include the two super-big Memory Makers foam alpha sets that I have...*love* those, too! ~ K
p.s. - Hey, KAR - so *glad* you're a demo now!!!! ~ K

I love Quirky Alphabet (upper & lower) because it can be fun, fancy, or simple. Anothet set I really like is the Classic (double).
Also, through February 28th, $5 of EVERY alphabet set you purchase goes to Tsunami Relief (you can read more about this on SU!'s home page http://www.stampinup.com), so, if you buy an upper & lower $10 is donated.

There are just too many to choose from! I'll probably get a double since that is most cost effective. Maybe I'll just have a great party and will be able to get 2!
I have several and a sizzix. I use whatever matches my theme. But, the one that goes with almost everything is the classic, or maybe the brushstroke. Remember, buy them before the 28th, so part of the proceeds go to the tsunami victims!
