Default ?? about making 'vintage' looking cards

I'm looking to branch out and try making a 'vintage' / collagey (sp?) looking card. The only set I have that comes close to a vintage look is Gentler times. I'm placing an order tonight and was looking for suggestions and direction on which set would be easiest to start with to acheive this look!

Also, what do you suggest for aging the paper?

This is new territory for me and I just want to make sure I have the right tools before I start!

TIA

Michele

Just did a quick search under VINTAGE in the gallery...here is the link to what I found. It may help you out with ideas and realize that it doesn't have to be a vintage set to look like it...one set used is the petal prints and it is beautiful used that way!!!

Thank you Keri!

I love the vintage look. For a background "French Script" is wonderful. As for vintage sets....so far my favorite was "Friendship's Journey". But with the new catalog out, I also love the Set sail, Nostalgia and Thinking of Father sets. Okay....I love all vintage sets. It's probably not much help to you now! LOL. Just pick a set that you like a lot out of those and go from there.
Vintage is so easy. Love the collage look. It's so forgiving. You know where to ask if you have any more questions. This site is just the BEST.

Hugs and smiles.

Thanks Beate! I figured you were the "Queen of Vintage" and might have some suggestions for me. It just looks so intimidating to me! I was thinking of getting the French Script background anyway...so there's at least one decision I don't have to ponder over!

And make sure to get that Basic Brown pad for that tea-dyed/ancient look. It's fabulous with watercolors, pastels, etc. and is not as harsh as the Basic Black.

I had the brown on my list too! Maybe I have everything I need and just don't realize it!

Sometimes I just have a hard time thinking 'out of the box'!

I love to age with More Mustard, Creamy Caramel, and Close to Cocoa, as far as sponging goes. It's easy to over-do, so use a light touch and add more as you like.

I love to use Cottage Rose for vintage looking cards. Especially pretty in plums and mossy greens. To antique ANY card, use the rubber brayer and creamy caramel ink. Just ink up the brayer and roll over the card. You'll get lines unevenly inked areas but this just adds to the vintage feel. You can also dab on gold pearl ex for a golden luster. I add the pearl ex to scuffed up buttons and to my ribbon also. Just rub on with your finger. Also you can add a vintage look to any card by spraying your cardstock with water and then crumpling it up. Then flatten out and dry before using on your card. You can then rub on pearl ex for a nice luster. Another idea is to tie your organdy ribbon then heat it with the heat gun. It makes the ribbon crinkle up and look vintage. Just some ideas, enjoy!!

Default vintage look

One of the easiest ways (for me) to achieve a vintage, aged look, is to run the edges of my cardstock across the top of a brown (close to cocoa, chocolate chip, etc) ink pad. Then lightly "swipe" the ink pad across the top of the cardstock too. This gives it the weathered look.
