Challenge Title: Masquerade Hostess: dini (Dina K) Keyword: FF16diniA Date: Sunday, October 9th
Welcome to Falliday Fest! We're so excited about this opportunity to have fun together, share cards, and get ahead on our projects for the holiday season! We are so glad you're here. For my challenge, I was inspired by Halloween masks, which is odd because Halloween masks actually make me very uncomfortable... but I do love masking techniques! For my challenge, here's what you'll need to do:
1. Die cut (or hand cut) a shape or shapes out of wide painter's tape or masking paper.
2. Apply the masks to a piece of watercolor paper.
3. Create a background around the masks, using watercolors or sponged/stamped inks.
4. Let the background dry completely, then remove the tape to reveal the masked images. VIEW THE GALLERY FOR THIS CHALLENGE HERE View the Falliday Fest Gallery HERE

Wow, what a great tip/technique to use the painter's tape with the dies for a mask! Tho with the pretty shade of green or blue tape there is, I may forget to remove the mask. Thanks Dina for this challenge!
This one looks fun Dina! *hugs* I don't have that kind of tape... or watercolor paper. Do I have to use watercolor paper? As long as I watercolor? Just trying to make sure I'm not breaking a rule or anything... also, am I understanding this correctly, that we have until the 31st to upload all the challenges?
At first I was a bit intimidated by this challenge, but once I played around a little in the craft room, I was pretty happy with how this card turned out.
This brings back memories of trick or treating in Montana with our kids- it could be cold and snowy! I used a die cut car and pumpkin combo, adding some twine for tying it to the roof of the car- and using my scalloped circle and snowflake die cut shapes as masks and also as decorative elements. Here's FF16diniA Snowy Halloween

I did not have masking paper or painters tape, so I had to improvise with my Xyron repositionable adhesive cartridge and some cardstock - epic fail! Hints of the die showed but not enough to recognize it was an intricately cut heart. So, I outlined it sketchily with a marker then placed a smaller vellum heart in the center.
Thinking I may have chosen too intricate a die/s as I had to pick out teeny tiny bits of painters tape.....and haven't even begun to add watercolor.......that comes just as soon as I catch my breath....LOL! but the cards posted have all been awesome.

Here is my attempt at masking/die cutting frog tape and sponging. harder than I thought but with a bit of practice, I think I could learn to do it better.

I do make a mess when it comes to water, but I had fun. This was the first time I ever tried this, and although some of the color bled underneath the tape, I liked the end result. Thanks for the fun challenge, Dani!
