2011 Cards for A Cause ~ JUNE MISSION ~ Stamp from the Heart!
ORGANIZATION BEING FEATURED:
Operation Quiet Comfort ~ Summary of the organization's purpose:
Operation Quiet Comfort (OQC) is a national benefit organization established in July 2004 with an IRS-approved 501(c)(3) designation effective December 5, 2005. For more info: Operation Quiet Comfort Home. (You might want to take a look at the website to see pictures of the jeans quilts we send over.)
We exist solely for the purpose of honoring and comforting America's military men and women who become sick and injured while serving in harm's way. We also provide support to those who care for them.
We need thank you, patriotic, cheerful hello and encouragement cards from adults and kids which are sent to our wounded troops and the medical staffs that care for them in over 75 combat support hospitals. Some of the cards will be placed in transition kits that we send over to give to the patients (some come in with no personal items; the transition kits help with that issue). Others are handed out by the medical staff to patients.
Cards should either have a stamped sentiment (thank you, thinking of you, etc.) or written message inside and then signed (first name only is fine) including your city/state. The written message can be as simple as "Thank you for your service". We want to show our troops that we care. Duplicate cards are fine. They will be separated into different groups.
SPECIAL RESTRICTIONS:
NO GLITTER
NO ENVELOPE
MAILING ADDRESS:
Diane Schneider/OQC
1500 Carrington Park Circle, #210
Morrisville, NC 27560
Thank you Diane, for giving us the opportunity to help you in this wonderful cause!
Fellow SCSer's, thank you for spreading your SCS love! Please feel free to mail your cards all throughout the month of June!
Once you have mailed them come back to us here and let us know they have gone postal!
Cindy, thank you for featuring OQC!!! I've been the volunteer card coordinator for this organization since 2007 and I'm so excited to see the cards that will be coming in this month!
I would dearly love to join the "cause", as the wife of a soldier who, thankfully, completed his full service career I am always aware of other service families who were/are not as fortunate as us. To be able to give back in some small way is, I feel, the least I can do.
I don't have a stash of cards (as yet) because I'm so "new" to card making, it will take me a few days to get some cards together.
I'm just posting of my intent to do so.

I'll be working on my cards this coming weekend. I've been telling my hubby all about the Cards for a Cause and he thinks it's so great that we do this, but when I told him about last month's (Landstuhl Regional Med Center) and then this month's cause, he got all misty-eyed. I swear! You see, he was previously in the Air Force and currently is a civilian employee for the Dept. of Defense and is in charge of several battle helicopters and airplanes (equiptment calibration, etc.), so all of the military causes are dear to his heart...especially the Air Force ones. He was telling me all about the various hospitals that the wounded go to, etc., and feels that our cards will really help to ease some of the suffering that these heros are living each and every single day. I told him that it makes me feel HONORED to share my little talent to, hopefully, brighten someone's day. Heck, it's the least I can do.
So, he told me to specifically send out a very big THANK YOU from him and all the solders and personnel for doing what we are.
Hugs to everyone who's helping and donating their time, energy, and supplies.
Maggie

Just wanted to mention: When you send in your cards, please stick a note that tells me they are for "Cards for a Cause" so I know where to put the acknowlegment. Thanks.
yes, thank you to those who have served and are serving!
can we send cards that are blank for others to give away or send?
Operation Quiet Comfort doesn't send blank cards to the troops. Our goal is to send in cards with encouraging messages from home . ("any hero" mail)
However, you can include blank cards and I will get others to sign them. But it would really be more of a help to me if most cards are signed when received. Remember I can use multiple cards from the same person with the same message. I will split in different packages.

Just want to mention that I will be on vacation June 9-18th. But send in the cards; my son will be getting my mail for the week. Acknowledgments will be posted on the 20th.
Ok, I'm obviously missing it somewhere, but isn't there a place where we're suppose to log in how many cards we've sent to the current monthly cause? I can't find it!
Anyway, I'm sending out 33 cards today for the June Mission, "Quiet Comfort." Don't know why I've got 33 and not an even number, other than for the past couple of weeks I've been working on making these cards and not keeping track of how many I've made and when I stopped, that was the magical number! ;)
I'm sending a prayer off with this batch that whoever ends up receiving a card, a hug and warm fuzzies tag along with it to help heal them.

A big Thank you to Ruby and to C from Ft. Wright (no name was included). Your cards are beautiful. I just love seeing all the designs! OQC appreciates your hard work!

Hi there Maggie! So sorry I am so late to get back to you to answer this. But yes, there is a thread....here is a link to it. Every month it will be in the Cards for a Cause forum along with the challenges. Here you go:
Vacation was wonderful, relaxing, fun and food was delicious. Went to the best family resort (been going there over 20 years now) called Woodloch in Hawley, PA.
Diane...you are some faithful returning guests! A resorts best scenario! Awesome that they have entertained you for 20 years, they must be doing something right! So cool!
Just want to say that this is a never ending need. So even when June is long gone, if you ever want to write a thank you note for the troops, you can always send one to me.
Thanks everyone!
Hi, The month got a little hectic and I did not get to post or mail them until now. I made 52 of EASY cards that were made from other cards. I wrote inside of each one and signed them. I hope they make the military have a little happier day!
