JANUARY 2016 Mission-CARDS FOR A CAUSE
2016 Cards For A Cause
JANUARY MISSION Stamp from the Heart!
ORGANIZATION BEING FEATURED: Cards From The Heart Drive
Description of Organization: Card Drive that collects handmade Valentine cards for children in hospitals for Valentine's Day, started by Winter Sims.
CONTACT PERSON: Teresa - va.sunshine
Referred by: Winter Sims TYPE OF CARDS REQUESTED:
* Cards need to be a Valentine theme. * Cards can't have anything about 'Get Well Soon', 'Feel Better', or anything reminding them of being sick. (Only Valentine Cards) * Please make cards that can be used for any gender or age. * No buttons, glitter, or anything that can be pulled off and become a chocking hazard. * Cards MUST be able to fit into a 4 1/2 X 5 3/4 envelope (A2 size, but can be smaller, just not bigger). I CANNOT use them if they are bigger! (I will provide clear envelopes for each card, so there is no need to send one with your card.) The clear envelopes make it easier when they hand them out to the kids. * You can include a message in the inside, but please remember, nothing reminding them of being sick. (Maybe just a Valentine sentiment.) You can also sign your first name and what state you are from ONLY, no last names and cities! No religious sentiments either, as most of the hospitals are non denominational in their beliefs. * And Do Not add your blog addresses to your cards! Some hospitals have rules against patients knowing who the donors are. *I will be accepting cards for the whole month of January. ( Jan. 1 - Jan. 30, Please don't send any after that, because I have to send them off so they will get to the hospitals in time for Valentine's Day. And please make sure you allow enough time for shipping as well.) At the end of the month, I will draw names for prizes. The more cards you send, the more times your name goes into the drawing to win prizes. Let your kids get involved too! * Please send a piece of paper with your name, address, email address, and the amount of cards you sent. (It will help when I have the drawings.) A lot of the prizes will be sent from the sponsor, so I NEED to have your email address for sure! *Please send cards to me at:
SPECIAL RESTRICTIONS: *Cards can't have anything about 'Get Well Soon', 'Feel Better', or anything reminding them of being sick. (Only Valentine Cards) * Please make cards that can be used for any gender or age. * No buttons, glitter, or anything that can be pulled off and become a chocking hazard. *And Do Not add your blog addresses to your cards! Some hospitals have rules against patients knowing who the donors are.
GUIDELINES: Please keep in mind, we are representing SCS by sending our cards each month. Recycling is always good, but only use products on your cards that you would like to receive on cards. Also, our card donations are not tax deductible and it is not required. Please do not ask for a receipt. There have been groups that will send thank you's but the "referred by" person keeps us informed and passes on the thank you's. Most of these organizations are volunteers and spend countless hours helping others, lets help make their jobs easier and bless them in helping others.

I hope to get some cards made. 95% of my craft room (all my stamps) is packed in boxes for our move but I think my heart punch is still available.
Well, I have nothing left to make valentine cards. I hope to have my craft room up and running in our new house by the end of January. Will join you all for the February challenge!
Great idea for a challenge. I usually don't post in here but do submit cards for the challenges as often as possible. Trying to get better at this for 2016! Valentine's going in the mail this week. Thanks for organizing this.
I was kind of stumped as to what would be appropriate sets to use for "any gender and age". I sorted though several sets. Would these images from these sets be the type to use?
Am I over thinking this? I know they're going to have to be really quick and simple cards for me to get them out in time. And I'd have to hop to it quickly, since it tends to take me forever to make a card. Any recommendations?
Maybe this will give you some ideas, grateful2bsaved.
So far, I have used the following:
No Bones About it with the "No bones about it, you're great" sentiment and hearts
Paper Smooches Bee Mine with the "Bee Mine" sentiment
Avery Elle Whale Hello with the "Whale you be my valentine" sentiment
Taylored Expressions Tag a Long Valentine with the "Love" sentiment (I used this set twice - once with the dog, once with the heart shaped flower)
Taylored Expressions Graysie with the "You're purrfect" sentiment
Punch art minion with My Favorite Things "Bananas for you" sentiment
The inside of the card is decorated with matching stamps or hearts and all use a "Happy Valentines Day" stamp.

I have 6 cards going out Monday.....had to take some out after re-reading the instructions, had put some brads on some that might not be good cause they could be
pulled off....but hope what I send will help. Thanks for the cause.
Mom (happyinhawaii) and I worked on cards yesterday, DD is helping me today, and going back to Mom's to finish some up later today. We should have a couple dozen ready to go in the mail Tuesday. I just realized it's kinda cool - 3 generations worked to put this batch of cards together. Thank you for giving us this opportunity to make cards for such a great cause.
Will post tracking number once they've been mailed.
I am assuming a Rhinestone may be a choking item? Also, do we need to include a regular envelope (I see that we do not need to include a clear envelope)? I am hoping to get a few made and off in the mail :-)
Julie, I read it to mean no need for any envelopes. I'm just putting mine in clear envelopes/jackets in case it makes it easier. Good question though - SHOULD we include regular envelopes?

Uh oh. I already sealed the Flat Rate envelope I'm sending them all in. Should I open it and remove the clear jackets I have most of the cards in? (Post office is closed today, or they'd already be gone. lol)

Ok- I am working on some Valentine's Day Cards for this drive and hope with the blizzard that mail will be running as normal on Monday or Tuesday (I am assuming that they s/b able to arrive in Texas by the 30th if I mail on the 26th or so)...
Question- do we need to fill out the inside at all? Or is it better to leave them blank so they can use them as Valentine's themselves...not sure on this issue :-)
I left mine blank, only because there's no way I would have gotten them mailed if I tried to sign them. Now, after seeing how terrible the weather is on the mainland, I'm kicking myself for not putting them in a big Ziplock inside the Flat Rate envelope. I hope they don't get soaked. :(
I had so much fun making Valentines! I got a little carried away and made 65. They are on their way to you. All are signed and ready to go! Thanks for organizing!

Do we usually have this type of challenge each year for children? I do not believe our mail will be picked up tomorrow nor will the post office be open or accessible since we have 36" of snow all around this area....:-(
I only have twelve cards ready to go and if I cannot get them mailed tomorrow, I can hold them until next year...
