Probably like many of you, my heart breaks for the people in Japan whose world was literally rocked and destroyed. I can't imagine. I cannot imagine! I've sat here for four days watching ... and crying ... and praying for them all. It dawned on me last night that I'd like to do something beyond watching and crying (though, very much continuing to pray). Perhaps in better times, recieving a homemade card would be what would bring a smile to a saddened face, but right now I think it might be food and warmth ... and love.
I'd like to make cards to raise money for this cause. I've never done anything like this before but I would like to try and am willing to begin something. I was wondering if any of you would be willing to make cards along with me that can be sold toward raising funds.
I will keep watching this post to see if there is any interest. Anything we can do toward this will be of help to someone ... I have no doubt.
Thank you.
Hello, thank for the response.
Good question ... actually I do.
For my job, I go around to various businesses, large and small, near and far (driving distance). I have been doing this for several years and have built up very good relationships with upper managements. Most places know that I make cards and have seen them, they also know that I have never solicited or sold any for my own benefit or cause. I went to two locations this morning and suggested the prospect of this as a fund raiser and they both were eagerly supportive and hope I will persue it. One suggested that I price the cards at ~??? (suggestions?); if someone was to write a check, have them make it out to the American Red Cross (Japan), of course if cash is given, receipts will be made and then transferred in money order form for the Red Cross - all monies will be accounted for and recorded.
That's my plan right now.
I am going to start working on simple cards; Mother's Day is around the corner, Easter sooner yet - just a variety: birthday, sympathy, thank you's.
I will post my adress if anyone is interested. Please, if you have any ideas, questions, concerns, warnings, you name it - don't hesitate to let me know.

Cathy, I will prepare a variety package of six cards for your perusal. I have done this for church fund raisers. Let's see what happens. (Give me a little time to prepare.)
Oh, thank you so very much! Anything at any time is appreciated. I have about 10 or so already. As I said, any new ones I make for this will be simple (sometimes those are the best)
You're right, we will see what happens. Working together helps!

Please let me know how you think your customers would want the sentiments:
1) On the Front with Blank Inside
2) No sentiment on Front but something Inside
3) Both
Perhaps we should make this the monthly challenge for April. I would have to change the schedule.........I think doing it sooner than later would be a good thing......I will see what I can do.

This crossed my mind but I didn't want to presume! I think it would be great!
I'm not sure what that entails, please fill me in. I must confess, in the past I've only visited SCS for inspiration of card making (I'm absolutely amazed by the talent people have)
Let me know if there's anything I should be doing other than making cards right now.

Cindy Motherway (Mothermark) hosts challenges on SCS. One is Teapot Tuesday, the other is Cards for a Cause. (I participate in both.) The latter is the challenge she referred to above. I believe she will contact you for your opinion if it will fit in the challenge. There may be some tweaking of your original idea but you and Cindy could discuss it for it's viability.
It isn't intended to take it away from you...just that maybe we could make it better.
I was looking to see if anyone was using their stamping skills to raise money and came across this post. I just wanted to throw out there that Etsy has a section for people selling items to help Japan. I ordered a paper crane stamp and was going to try to do sets of blank watercolor cards and then sell them on Etsy. That might be something else you could try if you can't find a way to get them out.

Hi Cathy! So sorry I was so slow to comment here. Thank you Bev for being here to answer questions! Cathy, if you check out the January and February and March Card for A Cause Missions posted in this thread, that is what I mean by making your card drive the April Mission. You would be totally in charge, I will just post the challenge there in hopes that you will get more recognition and therefore more participants. I would just post the information and have the cards sent to you, no difference than what is already happening. I would be happy to do that if you would like. In the three challenges so far this year, the recipients have received over 100 cards....it would be great if you got that many to sell for Japan.
Let me know what you think. I was able to change the April destination to May if you want to do April.
Hi Cindy,
I've been reading up on this; it sounds like a great idea. I appreciate all of your support and look forward to getting this underway and moving along.
To Bev:
I recieved your cards safe & sound, they're absolutely beautiful!!! You refreshed my heart with your generosity.
Thanks again to all - I will keep you updated on the progress.
Cathy, thanks for letting me know they arrived. I hope they were the style you had in mind. I also think you will be amazed at the generosity of this caring stamping community.
Okay, sounds good! I will switch this up and name this as the April Mission.......sounds good! I agree with Bev, it will be a success, SCS is filled with kind and generous people!
I was picking out my cards to send to you, and thought I better recheck this thread. Now I will wait and send them during the April Mission. You will get more from me that way. Good luck on finding a way to sell them. I live in a little village of 400 and have no way of helping other than making them for you! Thanks for what you are doing. It is soooooo sad to see what happened in Japan and glad to help in some little way!

You have such a giving heart. This is more than a "deserving" mission, it's a "critically needed" mission. I hope many will open their hearts to the people of Japan.
I have a couple questions:
Should I wait until I receive more cards before I start selling them - or go ahead as the opportunities arise?
Also, I know to keep track of the amount of cards I recieve/sell and the money raised - but is there a rule of thumb as to what else I need to do? For example, do I need to keep track of WHO sends me the cards? I don't care what it is I have to do, I only want to make sure I'm doing it.
Thank you.

This is just my personal opinion. Mothermark may have some words of wisdom. However, I would kick off the sales as soon as possible. The gals contributing (including me) will be anxious to know the number of cards received in April toward this mission. The total going to the Red Cross for Japan would be interesting to all of us. I see no need to track the donors.

Cathy, Thanks so much for the kind words! We should be complimenting you on taking on this BIG project! Once the first of April comes around, you should really be getting cards in the mail. I PERSONALLY also think that if you have the opportunity to start selling what you have received - go for it!! Thanks again. Rita
I seriously needed to clean out my stash so have 15 cards bagged up and will make some more during the month. thx for doing this....I agree, sell as you can....you may be overwhelmed by number of cards and if you sell as you can, it will keep bulk down for you...
Well, looks like we all agree! Sell as you can, don't worry about keeping track of who sent what and whether they sell. You can however come to your challenge thread as you receive cards and just post a comment that they made it to your house, letting the sender know that you got them but even that is not necessary if you are too busy! On April 1st I will also post your Let's Count the Cards thread which will help give us a general idea on the number of cards sent . I agree that the dollar amount of your donation to Red Cross would be so fun to know! Don't worry or stress too much! It's gonna be stressful enough just being out and about selling!!! You are wonderful for taking this on and I am happy we all can help you in your efforts!
Oh, and here's is another thought...if in the end, you end up with a stash of cards, you can always pick a wonderful organization in your community who can use the cards to encourage others! So, what a win-win situation! I think its a wonderful destination for April! Thanks for taking this on Cathy, you da man! Hee!
This will be my first challenge. Count me in! So glad I can help out. Do you need envelopes to? I will get them out to you next week.
Hi there! We were leaving comments at the same time! Stay tuned on Friday! This money making effort for Japan will be April's featured recipient of cards. I plan to start a new thread on Friday, so just keeps your eyes open there! Thanks for helping out!
