Does anyone know what the coupon policy at Michael's really is? I tried to ask a manager and they wouldn't give me a written document. It clearly says on the outside of their store that they take all competitiors coupons. When I asked what that meant, they said it must be from a weekly insert. Meanwhile they take their own online coupons.
Also, I showed up once with a flyer from an LSS going out of business and the coupon was 50% your entire purchase. The Michael's people wouldn't take it. I asked why not, and pointed their sign out and the manager said, "sue me". I couldn't believe it, but with their coupons, how do you not go back? My LSS is dead anyway. I have to make the most out of Michael's
i work at michaels, and the coupon policy just changed and they gave each cashier a booklet explaining the new coupon policy.
so it works like this,
you can use these in ONE transaction
1 - 40% or 50% coupon (from flyer/email/reciept)
and
1 - entire purchase coupon
and
as many 'bonus' coupons. which are like, "30% off entire purchase of candles"
for when it comes to competitors coupons, i have not had any problems with them. i work in canada, so there arent any 'competitors'.
just be nice to the cashiers, and ask them first, before asking to speak to the store manager. If you bug the store manager for a minor question that a regular cashier could of answered, they will remember you. lol. we get people in the store who come and stand by customer service waiting for someone to help them.
the customer service desk isnt the only place in the store that offeres customer service :P every cashier does returns/refunds and answers questions. including coupon questions

First thing tomorrow morning I would be on the telephone with corporate, advising them of the "sue me" comment. Totally inappropriate! Certainly there is someone that would be happy to have his job and benefits! BTW, this is JMO.

We have a list of competitors that we will take coupons from. Unfortunately they do not include local scrapbook stores....only chain stores. Joanne's, Dick Blick, AC Moore, Hobby Lobby....could be a few others. Even so, the manager should not have said "sue me" that is just ignorant. I would call corporate about that too. He could have just explained which comp. coupons they do take. And I believe we are supposed to have something to show customers (about our policies) if they ask. Although not every cashier would know where to look for it
And it doesn't have to be from a weekly insert! We take e-mail coupons from the competitors I listed. I actually had to point out to an employee at another Michaels that we DO take AC Moore e-mail coupons. I had one (yes, I will use any coupon I can get!!) and she said we don't take that...I told her to pull out the couon policy and look, it is one of the stores listed. We all are supposed to be "up" on policies but some people either don't read the info or remember it.

In reference to competitor coupons my comments are added in red

Well, I must correct what I wrote. I noticed a new flyer in our breakroom today dated July 6. We DO NOT take competitor's entire purchase coupons.
And we don't take Dick Blick coupons....is that even a store? Don't know where I got that name.
Yes, Dick Blicks is a store. They're a chain of stores like Hobby Lobby, Michaels, etc. but the actual brick-and-mortar stores are only in certain states (not mine though). They also have an on-line store that I purchase from. They carry just about all art materials you could want at good to great prices. For me, they carry the higher end art supplies that I can't get locally.

If there is a list of stores they take coupons and a whole booklet on how the coupons work, they should avoid signs with unqualified statements such as "We take all competitor coupons". I think a reasonable person would agree that Michaels competes against local scrapbook stores on scrapbooking supplies, as they've put themselves into bankruptcy chasing local stores out of business. They also say they will beat all competitors advertised prices. It's similarly reasonable to conclude that they compete against Wal Mart in scrapbooking stickers if the two stores are within a certain vicinity. However, try getting Michael's to drop their Jolee's to Walmart prices or their Cricut to Walmart prices during Christmas. Someone call Millburg Wiess!! No, they're probably too busy in Louisiana. Pity...

Also, if you buy something in the store this week, you get a 50% off coupon with your receipt for next week!
Actually I went to 2 different Michaels about 30 miles from each other. One I got a 50 off coupon the other printed a 40 off coupon. Makes no sense to me!

right now, theres a big clearance sale at the Michaels in Westbury NY. i asked the young lady at the register and she said she was told that all Mike's in the area have the same clearance... so if you're near a Mike's, Cuttlebug embossing folders for $1.50, dies for 79cents and up. rubber stamps in bins for $4, $5, and $6 (i nabbed a $15.99 fairy stamp for $4). some colors of things are on sale- embossing powders for 79 cents, brads for $1 (recollection brand). There was a ton of stuff on clearance, plus they are running regular sales (40% off stickers, Bazzill 2/$1 any sizes etc)
i had to hunt for an item I could use my 50% off coupon on LOL.... but have no fear, i found a clear stamp set i had been wanting (now, next time i have to get a coupon and buy a huge clear block... yep, i am enabling not just y'all, but myself as well
The Aug 16-21 coupons won't come out until tomorrow. Go to the same site to check for the updated coupons. I will try to post it tomorrow or the next day.

I think the coupon policy varies by store. One of the stores (closest to my house) lets me use up to 4 coupons per transaction...all Michaels ones and they can be the same. Most of the other stores do not let you use as many.
blessings.
There's supposedly a corporate Michael's policy that all the stores are supposed to follow, but from experience, we know they all don't do what corporate says. My local one seems to change every time I go into the store but they still take multiple coupons as long as they're different types (but the receipt ones and the newspaper ones are considered the same type). I was visiting my parents' this month in a different state and tried to use different types but was told "one coupon per customer per day". When I mentioned that it seems every Michael's store has a different actual policy, they told me that the policy was a corporate one and if corporate found out, that the individual store could get in big trouble. So who really knows what the true story is. I think only the person/team from corporate that made whatever current policy is the only group who really knows for sure what's supposed to happen. For me, I still ask whenever I go in just so I know what I can and cannot get in one shopping trip.
