NBC has released the official sneak peek of their new competitive crafting show starring Amy Poehler and Nick Offerman. The show, Making It, will debut at 10pm eastern on July 31st
For some unknown reason I’ve stopped watching tv except for baseball (Go Nats) and once in a blue moon an HGTV house/lake/beach hunters program I’ve wrangled my husband into watching with me when he’s done watching something else. We do a running commentary.
But this show is on my Outlook calendar. Doubtful it will stay on tv long - seems more like an HGTV type show, but should be so fun while it lasts.
I thought it would be papercrafting too. But it does look like something I'll watch. Normally my hubby & I only watch animal planet or national geography, but he's asleep by this time. So I'll have control of the tv. But I will watch this, at least the first few episodes, to see what it's like.
When oh when will we get a draft show like Carol Duvall's? To be honest making crafts in a hurry NEVER ends well. I hope the show makes it but I do not see how it can. We crafters want new product reviews and how to make interesting things.
It sounds to me like a re-make of a show that was on cable a few years ago. I could never get into it even though I am a crafter.
I'm pretty sure it would be something I'd have to DVR as I do not see DH wanting to watch it. Worse, he'd watch and drive me crazy with "why" questions and running commentary the whole time.
The premier of season 1 airs tonight on NBC. It slipped my mind until I got an email from Etsy that mentioned the show. So I set it up to record tonight in case I forget again. lol. I have found some of Carols and Aleenes old shows on YouTube and I really enjoyed those. A few ones with Aleenes daughters are on there as well.
Heres my take on it - I really enjoyed seeing the makes and the variety of talents. There was quite a bit of comedy, some a little too cheesy for my liking. I would have personally preferred that time to be spent showing the methods used. The badge rewards seem juvenile and it really surprised me that a show promoting Etsy would devalue artistry in that way.
I wondered how much was pre-scripted when Jemma got drops of blood on her fabric and she (and no one else) seemed to know that your own saliva has enzymes that specifically break down your blood. Most tailors/seamstresses know because with scissors, needles, pins, etc. it happens a lot but perhaps none were professional sewers.
I hope the format improves with viewer feedback because the contestants themselves seem very talented.
Having said all that, I may NEVER be able to watch again because I was SO disturbed AND appalled that not one person used any ink in the whole episode!!!
Given that the show is entertainment for the general public on a broadcast channel, rather than on a cable network targeting a more narrow population, it was fun. Bonus - I always enjoy Amy Poehler.
